THE FINAL FRONTIER

“Painters have been obsessed with death since the very first artist took the very first breath. But while successive generations of Futilists might’ve chosen to speculate on the finality of it all, the more compelling creatives concern themselves with what happens on the way to The Final Frontier. That of course means life. It also means living. And the lovely decay inherent in the day-to-day.”

Christopher Maslow is a Melbourne-based fine artist whose creative practice centers primarily around painting and sculpture. A former Los Angeles resident, Maslow graduated in 2003 from The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising with a degree in product development. He quickly grew into a notable clothing designer and produced for multiple labels in Southern California. A few years into his career as a fashion designer, Maslow found himself gravitating towards street art. Subsequently, after many years of experimentation with multi-media, Maslow realized a greater calling to fine art. Since his transition onto canvas, Maslow has shown artwork in galleries across the United States and has experienced equal success in curation as well. Maslow has been a resident artist at Viophilia since November 2013, and simultaneously runs a studio-gallery in his hometown of Melbourne, Florida.

Maslow was selected as an artist at Viophilia Gallery due to his excellent track record of producing work in a variety of mediums. His work included some of the most impressive use of spray-paint, oil and mixed media. Although, we were introduced to much of his street art, his studio work showed the ability to captivate viewers through his strong conceptual depictions urban life. During his residency at Viophilia, Maslow created a variety of sculptures, ink blot paintings and also involved the work of other local artists into group shows. He was one of the first artists to create a large scale street art mural on building that spaned 150’ wide by 40’ high in the flourishing Wynwood Arts District. His street art exhibited a mastery of spray paint unparallel to many artists at the time. We are honored to have his work exhibited at Viophilia Gallery and to present the world with new a contemporary artist that truly represents todays new art forms.

Of that more compelling camp is a cat named Christopher Maslow. Visually-driven and vividly-inclined, he’s a kinda cartographer of the sublime, and he’s especially intent on investigating (and representing) how it affects our lives…”
